Member Spotlight
Katie Skiff
The collective engagement of our membership is a cornerstone of Anne Arundel Women Giving Together’s ability to strengthen and improve the lives of women, children, and families throughout Anne Arundel County. Our individual members are the building blocks that make this mission possible. Katie Skiff, chair of AAWGT’s Next Gen Committee, is one of those members, generously sharing her professional expertise, leadership, and enthusiasm for engaging early- and mid-career women who want to make a meaningful difference in our community.
An AAWGT member for nearly three years, Katie is a doctorally-prepared nurse practitioner who works in international health with the Peace Corps, managing complex medical cases and medical evacuations around the world. She also served with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in South Sudan, an experience she considers one of the highlights of her career.
After moving to Annapolis four years ago, Katie was looking for a meaningful way to become involved in her new community. “I was looking for a way to get involved locally, meet like-minded people, and capitalize on my limited free time in an impactful, actionable way,” she says. She joined AAWGT after attending an open house with her mother and has since served on the Grants Committee before becoming chair of the Next Gen Committee.
Today, Next Gen’s 23 members are working to introduce more younger women to AAWGT through networking, family-friendly events, and hands-on volunteer opportunities. “We are hoping to draw interest from a wide spectrum of early- to mid-career women trying to juggle it all,” Katie says.
She especially values volunteer opportunities that welcome family and friends while strengthening connections with local nonprofits. “My six-year-old needs to experience not just words but action,” she says. “Having her come along and contribute has been very meaningful.”
Through Katie’s leadership, Next Gen is bringing new voices and fresh perspectives to AAWGT, while helping build the next generation of women philanthropists. Her energy and commitment are creating more accessible ways for members to connect, serve, and strengthen our community together.
