AAWGT EDUCATION MEETING

THE FIRST 1000 DAYS OF A CHILD'S LIFE

Wednesday, February 5, 2020

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Bowen Theater

Maryland Hall

801 Chase Street

Annapolis MD 21401

The science is clear: the first 1000 days, from conception to age three, are critical in the development of a child’s brain and future. An infant’s earliest experiences and relationships dramatically influence long-term brain development, social-emotional growth and cognitive development, significantly impacting future health and success in school and life.

Nationally-recognized expert and keynote speaker Dr. Brenda Jones Harden, Richman Professor for Children & Families at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, will describe how growing up in challenging environments or circumstances can compromise healthy growth unless effective interventions are put in place.

The Judith P. Hoyer Center Early Learning Hubs, also known as “Judy Centers,” focus on children who face such challenges. Savannah Stamates, Program Director for one of two Judy Centers in Anne Arundel County, will tell us how our local Judy Center programs are designed and implemented to help infants and toddlers develop the emotional and cognitive skills and resilience that will enable them to thrive, both at school and in life.

This event is free, open to the public and accessible to persons with disabilities.
